My topic noted above, is the first part of the larger topic: Strategic Competition, Convergence, and Dilemma within Asia Pacific: Implications for South Asia.

Asia Pacific now focus of major power quest for strategic influence. Competing interests of US and China will impact geopolitical environment in South Asia. India has ambitions to consolidate its outreach in the Indo Pacific region. US has endorsed that ambition. China, Russia, India, Pakistan are reconfiguring their relationships.

US national security strategy of Dec 2017 presents India as a strategic partner. CPEC has emerged as a litmus test for the success of China’s BRI. South Asia would thus become the center of strategic competition, with challenges and opportunities for Pakistan.
